What is 5-Amino-1MQ?
5-Amino-1MQ is a quinolinium compound: a quinoline ring with a methyl group on the ring nitrogen (which makes it a permanently charged cation) and an amino group at position 5. It belongs to the methylquinolinium series of membrane-permeable small-molecule NNMT inhibitors.
NNMT transfers a methyl group from S-adenosylmethionine (SAM) to nicotinamide, producing 1-methylnicotinamide. Because of that, 5-Amino-1MQ is studied in laboratory research as a tool to inhibit NNMT and investigate its effects on the cellular NAD+ salvage pathway, SAM-dependent methylation and related metabolic signalling in cell models.
